Soludo Urges Church to Strengthen Partnership with Government
Anambra Governor calls on religious leaders to support governance and societal development while welcoming Church of Nigeria delegates.
Governor Soludo Urges Church to Partner with Government
Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has urged the Anglican Church to partner more closely with government in delivering development to the people. Speaking at St. Stephen’s Church, Osumenyi, during the opening of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Standing Committee meeting, Soludo emphasized that governance and societal progress should not rest on government alone.
Church Commended for Role in Development
Soludo praised the Church for its contributions to education, healthcare, and community building. He stressed that government and Church must work hand in hand to achieve lasting change. According to him, “The Church should not leave the burden of governance and societal development to government alone.”
Assurance of Safety and End of Sit‑at‑Home Order
Welcoming delegates to Anambra State, Soludo assured them of safety throughout the gathering. He announced that the “sit‑at‑home” order has been abolished in Anambra, describing it as sabotage against the South East economy.
He explained that after his inauguration, he visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in prison to discuss violence and civil disobedience. Kanu condemned killings and rejected the enforcement of sit‑at‑home orders.
Soludo noted that ending the order was vital to restoring peace and economic stability.
For context, reports on the impact of civil disobedience in Nigeria (Brookings Institution) (brookings.edu in Bing) highlight how unrest affects governance and development.
Praise for Church Leadership
Soludo commended the Primate, Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba, for a “wonderful, thought‑provoking, and inspirational” presidential address.
He also thanked Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor, the host Bishop, for his timely welcome and leadership.
By urging stronger Church–government collaboration, Soludo reinforced his vision of shared responsibility in building a peaceful and prosperous Anambra State.
