Peter Obi Urges Church as Watchdog
The former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi has urged the Anglican Church to act as Nigeria’s watchdog.
He made this call during the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Standing Committee meeting at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Osumenyi, Anambra State.
Politicians Blamed for Poverty and Insecurity
Obi delivered a sharp critique of Nigeria’s leadership. He accused politicians of driving the nation into poverty and insecurity.
According to him, government failures have left citizens vulnerable, and poverty is “tearing the nation to shreds.” He stressed that the Church must hold leaders accountable when governance fails.
Appeal for Prayer and Intercession
Obi appealed to the Primate, Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba, and other Church leaders to keep Nigeria in their prayers.
“Please do remember us in your prayers,” he said, emphasizing the importance of spiritual intercession in national healing.

Call for Government Support of Church Development
Obi also called for stronger collaboration between the government and the Church. He insisted that the government should financially support the Church’s developmental projects. He expressed confidence that the Church would use resources more responsibly for the benefit of the people.
