Governor assures families that remaining captives will regain freedom soon as rescued victims receive care

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has officially confirmed the release of 82 Christian worshippers who were abducted by bandits during a church service in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area, on January 18, 2026.

The governor made the announcement during a compassionate visit to the rescued victims at the Kaduna State Women and Children’s Shelter, where they are currently receiving medical attention and psychosocial support following their traumatic ordeal.

Recall that armed bandits had stormed the village during a worship service, abducting 177 congregants in one of the most distressing attacks on a Christian community in recent times. Prior to the latest rescue, 11 victims had earlier regained their freedom, leaving 166 worshippers in captivity before the release of the 82 survivors.

During his visit, Governor Sani expressed deep sympathy to the victims and their families, describing the encounter as both heartbreaking and hopeful.

He reassured residents of Kurmin Wali and the wider Kaduna community that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining captives, expressing confidence that they would be freed in the coming days.

Governor Sani also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending banditry and kidnapping across Kaduna State, emphasizing that no effort would be spared until every captive is rescued and reunited with loved ones.

Commending the security agencies for their gallantry, swift response, and dedication, the governor urged residents to continue cooperating with authorities to help restore lasting peace in affected communities.

Despite their painful experience, the rescued worshippers reportedly welcomed the governor with gratitude and optimism, demonstrating remarkable faith, resilience, and hope—a powerful testimony in the face of adversity.
