CAN Urges Compassionate Governance, Security, and Inclusive Economic Recovery in New Year Message

the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has extended sincere New Year greetings to citizens across the nation, acknowledging God’s mercy in preserving lives through a year marked by trials and testing moments.

Reflecting on 2025, CAN noted that many Nigerians endured economic hardship, rising living costs, insecurity, and uncertainty. These challenges, the association stressed, cannot be ignored or minimized. The resilience of the people is not proof that all is well, but rather a reminder of the urgent need for healing, relief, and justice.

Economic Realities Must Touch Ordinary Lives

CAN emphasized that reforms and growth must translate into tangible improvements in daily life. True progress is seen when food becomes affordable, healthcare accessible, education attainable, and meaningful work available. Development that fails to impact ordinary citizens remains incomplete.

Security and Restoration

The persistence of insecurity—terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and violent crime—remains a grave national concern. CAN urged the government to deliver on promises to reduce insecurity to its lowest levels in 2026.

The association further called for a comprehensive, time-bound plan to resettle communities displaced by violence. Citizens should not remain indefinitely uprooted from their ancestral lands and livelihoods. Beyond temporary relief, Nigeria must pursue restoration—rebuilding homes, infrastructure, and ensuring displaced persons return safely and with dignity.

Economic Fairness and Inclusion

As fiscal and tax reforms continue, CAN urged wisdom, fairness, and restraint. Economic decisions must not worsen hardship for struggling families. Small businesses, low-income earners, and rural communities require deliberate support to ensure recovery is meaningful and inclusive.

Moral Renewal and Integrity in Leadership

Nigeria’s challenges are not only economic but also moral. Corruption, injustice, and division continue to erode trust and weaken the national conscience. CAN stressed that leadership must be guided by integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to serve rather than dominate. National renewal requires moral courage as much as technical competence.

The Church’s Commitment

CAN reaffirmed its commitment to stand with the people, speak truth with love, and uphold hope in difficult times. The association declared that Nigeria is not without a future, affirming that justice, peace, and restoration are possible when leadership is responsible and citizens remain united.

As the nation journeys through 2026, CAN expressed sober hope that Nigeria can rise into better days marked by healing, stability, and shared progress.
