Afenifere has praised the U.S. airstrike on suspected terrorist enclaves in North-West Nigeria, describing the joint operation with Nigerian forces as a decisive action to protect lives and restore national security.
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has expressed support for the U.S. airstrike targeting terrorist elements in North-West Nigeria. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed that the operation was carried out with the approval of the federal government based on shared intelligence between Nigeria and the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump also confirmed the airstrike, emphasizing that American forces acted to neutralize terrorist threats operating in the North-West region.
In a statement issued on Friday 26th December, in Akure, Ondo State, by its National Organising Secretary, Kole Omololu, Afenifere described the airstrike as both timely and necessary in light of persistent insecurity, including terrorist attacks, abductions, and destruction of lives and property.
The organisation stressed that U.S. involvement in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations should be recognized as a positive intervention. “At this critical juncture, the involvement of the United States deserves recognition, not condemnation.
the statement ststed that, Innocent Nigerians have endured relentless attacks while insufficient measures were taken to confront terrorist enclaves.
Afenifere noted that true national sovereignty is reflected in a country’s ability to protect its citizens and secure its territory.
The group commended the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the joint operation, urging political leaders and the public to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
Afenifere calls upon all citizens, political leaders, and civil society actors to resist undermining these efforts with misplaced criticism.
