Sanwo-Olu Boosts Patient Morale at Gbagada Hospital

Governor’s Christmas visit celebrates outstanding healthcare workers, comforts patients, and reinforces Lagos’ commitment to quality public health

As part of efforts to boost patient morale and sustain excellence in healthcare delivery, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has visited Gbagada General Hospital to share goodwill, distribute gifts, and recognise outstanding service delivery among healthcare workers.

The visit formed part of the Lagos State Government’s annual Christmas outreach to public health facilities, designed to ensure that patients hospitalised during the festive season experience the warmth and joy of Christmas while motivating healthcare workers for continued excellence. During the outreach, awards and gifts were presented to the Outstanding Staff of the Year 2025, alongside special recognition for exceptional wards in acknowledgement of teamwork, dedication, and quality service delivery.

Representing the governor, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Dayo Lajide, toured key sections of the hospital, including the Emergency and Casualty Unit, Paediatric Ward, Male and Female Wards, as well as the Antenatal and Postnatal units. She interacted with patients receiving care during the yuletide and conveyed the governor’s goodwill messages.

Addressing patients and staff, Dr. Lajide extended the governor’s warm compliments and reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to the health and wellbeing of all Lagos residents. She encouraged citizens to adopt positive health-seeking behaviours and seek medical care promptly, stressing that no resident should feel neglected, especially during a season associated with love, hope, and celebration.

She also commended the management and staff of Gbagada General Hospital for their professionalism, compassion, and dedication to duty, particularly during the festive period, assuring them of the state government’s continued support through the provision of resources necessary for quality healthcare delivery.

In a show of public-private collaboration, the Rotary Club of Gbagada, led by its President, Rotarian Tosin Olawoyin, joined the governor’s delegation in distributing Christmas gifts to patients, underscoring the importance of partnerships in supporting public healthcare and patient welfare.

Earlier, the Medical Director of Gbagada General Hospital, Dr. Olusegun Babafemi, expressed appreciation to the governor and partners for their consistent support, noting that the yuletide celebration aligns with the state’s vision of providing hope, encouragement, and prayers for the speedy recovery of patients during the festive season.

Dr. Babafemi also praised hospital staff for their dedication, particularly those on duty during the holidays, noting that their commitment ensured patients felt valued, emotionally supported, and cared for despite being away from their families.
